Magic mornings.

Nov 15, 2016

Some mornings just give and give and give so when the alarm goes off at 4:30am and you roll out of bed hoping that this might be that very special sky the reward happens.

I could only call this image “magic” because it was just that a perfect little moment of magic that I have a single frame of and it was done. As I was watching the sky unfold itself over the horizon I knew it was going to be a treat. Instead of being in the more usual place and using all of the pool in front of me as I was down at Cronulla rock pool for only about 3rd or 4th time in a year since starting to capture images for SecretShire.

I tip toed myself to the very back of the pool and very carefully balanced myself over the corner of the pool. With my camera on tripod (of course) it floated over the water while I captured this frame. And it was “magic” even on the back of the camera it just stunned me. Now I don’t often heavily work my landscapes, I am kind of an old school photographer in fact it’s more than a kind of. I am an old school photographer. Everything I capture is a single frame, call it my film training days when you just couldn’t decide that you wanted a new sky in that image of felt like removing trees or rubbish. If you couldn’t chop it down or walk over to it and remove it you just had to work with it.

So back to the “magic” frame of that morning. As soon as I saw it the morning was done, the sun had peeked over the horizon which is usually my signal for exit stage left. On this morning I knew I had that killer image which only happens a few times a year. You see I don’t often just go to the waters edge and point my camera out to the rising sun. I look for something deeper, something that will make people either ask themselves if they know where that image is shot. Or more seeing the beauty and detail in something simple.
